Cinque corpi, una casa, la pelle come dispositivo ottico.
Un interno che si apre al mondo come ferita, attraversato da sguardi fissi e mobili, da camere che registrano il battito, da suoni che respirano nella carne.
“AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi nasce dall’incontro tra il lavoro di Francesco Arena e quello di Corpicrudi, duo di artisti che ha indagato la dimensione performativa del corpo e la sua trasfigurazione visiva.
L’azione si svolge all’interno di una casa ipotetica e simbolica, spazio mentale e sensoriale in cui le pareti diventano membrana, il quotidiano si deforma, la presenza si moltiplica. Ogni stanza è un episodio autonomo, un frammento di vita ricomposta, un campo di tensioni tra intimità e rappresentazione.
Arena assume il ruolo dell’occhio interno-esterno — Sisko, figura che attraversa la scena con videocamera e macchina fotografica.
Registra, osserva, compone: la sua visione è simultaneamente testimonianza e intrusione, documentazione e desiderio. Attraverso i suoi strumenti il corpo degli altri diventa immagine, e l’immagine, a sua volta, divora il corpo.
Il progetto si struttura come una serie visiva articolata in episodi, ciascuno legato a uno spazio della casa: Bathroom, Bedroom, Sitting Room.
Tre sezioni video si intrecciano in ogni capitolo — la performance, lo sguardo mobile, il film — generando un’unica installazione che ricompone, in loop, i frammenti della convivenza e le sue derive.
La musica elettronica di Mass_Prod (Martino Marini) agisce come linguaggio portante: una grammatica sonora che sostituisce la parola, scandisce i gesti, dilata le percezioni.
Il titolo stesso, Arena Meats Corpicrudi, gioca sulla collisione fra meet e meat — incontro e carne, dialogo e assimilazione.
È un gesto di contatto e di consumo: lo sguardo di Arena si nutre del corpo crudo offerto dal gruppo, lo metabolizza, lo attraversa come una sostanza viva. Ogni gesto, ogni respiro diventa nutrimento ottico, frammento da ingerire e riformulare. L’immagine non è più solo rappresentazione ma processo digestivo: ciò che viene visto si trasforma in materia visiva, ciò che è carne si rigenera come forma.
Arena agisce come un alchimista che assorbe e restituisce, che trasforma la presenza in una nuova epidermide iconica. Il suo sguardo non osserva da fuori: tocca, lacera, assimila. È uno sguardo carnivoro, che ama e divora, che tenta di trattenere la vita proprio nel momento in cui la consuma.
L’immagine, così, non è più documento né semplice proiezione, ma una creatura ibrida — metà corpo, metà visione — sospesa tra eros e documentazione, tra intimità e dispositivo.
In essa il desiderio e la distanza si confondono, la pelle diventa pellicola, la luce diventa carne.
La carne è superficie e soggetto, ma anche luogo di dissolvenza: spazio di contatto e di perdita, materia viva della rappresentazione e sua inevitabile corruzione. È memoria tattile, archivio sensoriale, teatro di una continua metamorfosi in cui la visione stessa si fa corpo e il corpo si fa immagine.
Tra il 2005 e il 2008 “AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi è stato presentato in in diversi festival e spazi espositivi internazionali, tra cui Bologna, Milano, Genova, Berlino, Limerick, Trieste, Prato e Novosibirsk — assumendo di volta in volta configurazioni differenti, tra installazione video-fotografica e live set, sempre con la presenza fisica dei cinque “abitanti della casa”.
Una casa che non è più luogo, ma organismo pulsante: corpo collettivo che accoglie e dissolve le singole identità in una trama di gesti, visioni e interferenze.
Il progetto si è articolato in differenti contesti espositivi e performativi — gallerie d’arte, spazi indipendenti, fiere — con un impianto ogni volta modulare, comprendente:
• proiezioni video
• immagini fotografiche e still pictures
• live set e sonorizzazioni elettroniche di Mass_Prod
• presenza performativa dei cinque “abitanti della casa”
Per ogni episodio del progetto sono stati realizzati:
• 50 DVD (PAL/stereo) numerati e firmati, contenenti le tre sezioni video
• 10 copie fuori numerazione
• stampe fotografiche di varie dimensioni (50×75 cm, 100×80 cm, 150×120 cm)
“AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi resta un dispositivo sulla soglia fra arte e vita, tra visione e contatto.
Un esperimento sullo sguardo come atto di appropriazione e di dono, in cui l’immagine si fa corpo esteso, prolungamento sensibile dell’occhio e della mente. L’artista diventa testimone immerso, partecipe e vulnerabile, che nel vedere consuma e, al tempo stesso, si lascia consumare.
In questo doppio movimento — assorbire e restituire, possedere e lasciarsi attraversare — si definisce la poetica di Arena, che da qui in avanti espanderà questa tensione in altri cicli di lavori, traslando la stessa urgenza visiva verso nuovi territori. Lo sguardo che in “AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi si misura con la carne e con la presenza, si farà negli anni successivi più analitico, più silenzioso, ma non meno incarnato: sposterà il fuoco dal corpo vivo al corpo della materia, dalla relazione alla forma, dalla scena condivisa all’immagine come residuo, come impronta di una prossimità perduta.
Il principio resta però identico: osservare per comprendere, toccare per trasformare.
Ogni progetto successivo diventa una variazione sul tema della visione come esperienza fisica, dell’immagine come territorio poroso in cui la realtà e il desiderio si confondono.
In questa traiettoria, “AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi non si configura come un punto d’arrivo, ma come una matrice generativa — il luogo originario in cui lo sguardo di Arena, già dotato di una propria identità linguistica, si affina e si espande, trasformandosi in strumento di indagine sulla presenza e sul suo inevitabile consumo, sulla tensione tra corpo reale e corpo rappresentato.
È qui che il linguaggio visivo, già autonomo e riconoscibile, assume una specifica densità performativa e concettuale, definendo il terreno su cui si innesteranno le successive evoluzioni del suo lavoro.

Five bodies, one house, skin as an optical device.
An interior opening to the world like a wound, crossed by fixed and mobile gazes, by cameras recording the pulse, by sounds that breathe through flesh.
“AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi originates from the encounter between the work of Francesco Arena and that of Corpicrudi, a duo of artists who explored the performative dimension of the body and its visual transfiguration.
The action unfolds within a hypothetical and symbolic house — a mental and sensorial space where walls become membranes, the everyday deforms, and presence multiplies.
Each room is an autonomous episode, a fragment of recomposed life, a field of tension between intimacy and representation.
Arena assumes the role of the inner-outer eye — Sisko, a figure moving through the scene with a video camera and a still camera.
He records, observes, composes: his gaze is simultaneously testimony and intrusion, documentation and desire. Through his instruments, the body of the others becomes image, and the image, in turn, devours the body.
The project unfolds as a visual series articulated in episodes, each tied to a specific space within the house: Bathroom, Bedroom, Sitting Room.
Three video sections intertwine in every chapter — the performance, the mobile gaze, the film — generating a single installation that recomposes, in loop, the fragments of coexistence and its drifts.
The electronic music by Mass_Prod (Martino Marini) acts as a structural language: a sonic grammar that replaces words, marks gestures, and expands perception.
It is a gesture of contact and consumption: Arena’s gaze feeds on the raw body offered by the group, metabolizes it, and moves through it like a living substance. Every gesture, every breath becomes optical nourishment — a fragment to ingest and reformulate. The image is no longer mere representation but a digestive process: what is seen turns into visual matter, what is flesh regenerates as form.
Arena acts as an alchemist who absorbs and returns, who transforms presence into a new iconic epidermis. His gaze does not observe from the outside — it touches, tears, assimilates. It is a carnivorous gaze, one that loves and devours, that tries to hold onto life precisely at the moment it consumes it.
The image is no longer a document nor a mere projection, but a hybrid creature — half body, half vision — suspended between eros and documentation, between intimacy and device.
Within it, desire and distance blur; skin becomes film, and light turns into flesh.
Flesh is both surface and subject, but also a site of dissolution: a space of contact and loss, living matter of representation and its inevitable decay.
It is tactile memory, sensorial archive, theater of a continuous metamorphosis where vision itself becomes body, and the body becomes image.
Between 2005 and 2008, “AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi was presented in various international festivals and exhibition spaces — including Bologna, Milan, Genoa, Berlin, Limerick, Trieste, Prato, and Novosibirsk — each time taking on different configurations, ranging from video-photographic installation to live set, always featuring the physical presence of the five “inhabitants of the house.”
A house that is no longer a place, but a pulsating organism: a collective body that embraces and dissolves individual identities within a web of gestures, visions, and interferences.
The project unfolded across various exhibition and performative contexts — art galleries, independent spaces, fairs — with a modular structure including:
• video projections
• photographic images and still pictures
• live sets and electronic soundscapes by Mass_Prod
• performative presence of the five “inhabitants of the house”
For each episode of the project were produced:
• 50 numbered and signed DVDs (PAL/stereo), containing the three video sections
• 10 unnumbered copies
• photographic prints in various sizes (50×75 cm, 100×80 cm, 150×120 cm)
“AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi remains a device on the threshold between art and life, between vision and contact.
An experiment on the gaze as an act of appropriation and gift, where the image becomes an extended body, a sensitive extension of the eye and the mind.
The artist becomes an immersed witness, both participant and vulnerable, who in seeing consumes and, at the same time, allows himself to be consumed.
In this double movement — absorbing and returning, possessing and being traversed — lies the core of Arena’s poetics, which from here expands this tension into further cycles of work, translating the same visual urgency into new territories.
The gaze that, in “AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi, confronts flesh and presence, will in later years become more analytical, more silent, yet no less embodied: shifting its focus from the living body to the body of matter, from relation to form, from shared scene to the image as residue — as imprint of a lost proximity.
The principle, however, remains the same: to observe in order to understand, to touch in order to transform.
Every subsequent project becomes a variation on the theme of vision as physical experience, of image as a porous territory where reality and desire merge.
Within this trajectory, “AMC”, Arena m-eats Corpicrudi does not appear as a point of arrival, but as a generative matrix — the original place where Arena’s gaze, already endowed with its own linguistic identity, refines and expands, becoming an instrument of inquiry into presence and its inevitable consumption, into the tension between the real body and the represented one.
It is here that his visual language, already autonomous and recognizable, takes on a specific performative and conceptual density, defining the ground upon which the subsequent evolutions of his work will take root.
